Despite several attempts to have dinner at Va Bene these past couple of months, something always managed to get in the way of making the trip there. After a rather late meeting in Makati last month, Sanju (of the blog Table For Three Please) and I, managed to find some time for a late-ish dinner at Va Bene. Fortunately, I was able to score the last table at the always crowded restaurant.
We ordered some favorites like the Polipo or octopus salad:
…and the Lobster and Prawn Cappellacci with Lobster Bisque.
Both were superb, as always.
There were also a couple of specials on the menu. We decided to try one starter and one pasta. The starter was Portobello stuffed with Italian Sausage on a bed of polenta. Very good and quite light except for the creamy polenta which gave it some heft.
For pasta, we chose the Saffron Linguini with Vongole. This was absolutely superb. The clams were almost superfluous to the dish. The pasta alone would have made a great meal.
To wash it all down, we opened a bottle of a new wine I bring in, Eden Canyon’s first ever Syrah.
Although i don’t generally go for the desserts a Va Bene as I’m usually too stuffed after all the pasta, the cake selection on the special menu was highly recommended.
Certainly not to be missed, this is the best dessert I’ve had at Va Bene. Although it was for a special menu, hopefully they’ll put this on the regular menu.
This dinner just confirms my previous opinion that Va Bene is the best pasta place in all of Manila!
